Merlopam 2 mg Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine anxiolytic medicine which is usually used for the treatment of anxiety. However, it has also shown to be an effective form of treatment for reducing the feeling of breathlessness. Lorazepam is also known by the brand name Ativan.
Dosage & administration:
This medicine is taken as a tablet, and should be swallowed with water. Always take Merlopam 2 mg Lorazepam exactly the way that a doctor or your GP has told you to. Your dosage will depend on your condition. The dose normally prescribed is between 0.5 mg (half a 1 mg tablet) to 1 mg. It is usually advised to be taken at night and as and when needed in the day for anxiety related breathlessness (up to a maximum of 4 times in 24 hours). It is recommended to take it 20 to 30 minutes before any activity that may make you short of breath or breathless, such as
washing and getting dressed. The following are the typical recommended dosage for the conditions this medicine is designed to treat:
anxiety – 1 mg to 4 mg a day (your doctor will tell you how often you need to take it),
sleep disorder – 1 mg to 2 mg before bedtime (will start working in around 20 to 30 minutes),
a pre-med for adults – 2 mg to 3 mg the night before the procedure and then 2 mg to 4 mg about 1 to 2 hours before your procedure,
a pre-med for children aged 1 month to 11 years – dose will depend on the child’s weight,
a pre-med for children aged 12 to 17 years and up – 1 mg to 4 mg the night before the procedure and/or at least 1 hour before the procedure.
If you’re over 65 or have liver or kidney problems, a doctor or your GP may recommend a lower dose.
Merlopam 2 mg Lorazepam is usually prescribed for a short time, from a few days to a maximum of 4 weeks. Your dose may go up or down until your doctor is happy you’re on the right dose. He or she may gradually reduce your dose at the end of the course of treatment rather than just stopping completely.
Merlopam 2 mg Lorazepam tablets are indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for the short-term relief of the symptoms of anxiety or anxiety associated with depressive symptoms. Anxiety or tension associated with the stress of everyday life usually does not require treatment with an anxiolytic
Possible Side Effects:
This drug might make you feel sleepy. If you are already taking other medicines which also have this affect, then you should discuss this with a doctor or your GP before starting Merlopam 2 mg Lorazepam. Because of the possibility of sleepiness, we advise you to take the first dose just before you go to bed and then see how drowsy you feel when you wake up in the morning. If you don’t feel drowsy, you can start using the lorazepam during the day, when you feel you need it. However, if you do feel drowsy then you should discuss this with your GP or
Respiratory Nurse.
